*****MAKING THE WORLD MORE CIVIL*****

Last year, The District of Columbia City Council passed a resolution declaring March 20, 2010, "Polite Day". On that day residents will be asked to be more polite and kind to each other. This resolution was the result of a post I made to my Washington Times Blog called "Another Polite Challenge", concerning the lack of civility and politeness that I experienced on a rush hour outing on the DC Metro System (subway)
I firmly believe that many people are too insular and overwhelmed with this digitized, fast-paced, hurried 21st Century life to think about the fact that they can be rude on occasions. Most just need a reminder to correct their behavior. I intend to observe Polite Day on March 20th this year as well.
Politeness and civility are states of mind and qualities we choose.
